The impact of social media on society

Is social media, such as Facebook, Twitter and others having a good or bad affect on the society of today? How will it be in the future?
Results show that almost 1billion people in the world are on Facebook. This is a huge amount considering that the world consits of about 7 billion people. Is this a good thing? I belive it is, but this is only good if people use these social media sites responsibly and respecfully. What is you opinion on this issue?

Google is an essence that has become part of our everyday lifes and how we live them. From Google search, Google images, Google maps, Google translate and many more that society uses every day. But is this a good thing? That google helps us decide on many things, including how we drive to work each day, keeps track of our calenders, shows us the world from space, lets us view peoples houses from across the world with Google street view, tells us how long to cook our food for and many other resources we use to live our life everyday. Insurance is a reasonable price due to the income that people earn these days. After knowing people who have had their Mac, PC, ipods, iphones, ipads and Android Compatible Devices stolen or damaged, I had to insure all of my devices.
